Photography
I’ve been serious about photography since I received my first camera at age eleven, and decided I wanted to travel the world taking photos of animals for National Geographic. Well, I haven’t been published there yet – but my photos have been published in many books and magazines around the world, including:
The Vancouver Sun (Canada)
The Tyee (www.thetyee.ca)
Beautiful BC (Canada)
BBC Wildlife Magazine (UK)
Outpost Magazine (Canada)
Vancouver Magazine (Canada)
Western Living Magazine (Canada)
Adventure Sports Magazine (USA)
Sea Kayaker Magazine (USA)
Adventure Kayak Magazine (Canada)
Breathe Magazine (Canada)
Canadian Running Magazine (Canada)
WaveLength Magazine (Canada)
Al Borde (Argentina)
Trail (Spain)
Geo (Germany)
Oasis (Italy)
I did the photography for two of my published books: The Wild Edge (225 colour photos; published in 2004, and a Canadian best-seller) and The Wild Side Guide to Vancouver Island’s Pacific Rim, (2nd edition published in 2010) as well as for a book which I co-authored, First Nations of the Pacific Northwest: Change and Tradition (published in 2005).
I have had solo photo shows in Canada and in Europe:
Silk Purse Gallery, West Vancouver, “Clayoquot: The Wild Edge” November 13-25 2001
Café Pamplona, Tofino Botanical Gardens, Tofino, British Columbia April 1-30 2002
Westfalisches Museum für Naturkunde, Muenster, Germany, “Into the Light”, September 2005 – October 2006
West Vancouver Memorial Library, West Van, June 1 – July 28 2010
Wickaninnish Inn, Chestermans Beach, Tofino, British Columbia “Clayoquot Wild” 2001 – 2012
Rollin Arts Centre, Port Alberni, British Columbia, “Wild!” May 12 – June 9 2012
I have thousands of images in stock – from where I live, here on Vancouver Island, as well as from my many travels to Australia, South and Central America, and Europe.
You can find examples of my work online on the websites for my two current photo/book projects, The Secret Coast (and RCGS-sponsored expedition down the west coast of Vancouver Island), and Snowbirds (some incredibly unique photos of hummingbirds in the snow) – as well as by going to my blog on this website. Or you can look me up on Instagram!
And you can always contact me with your specific stock requests or for assignments, or to sign up for my email list and get updates about my adventures (don’t worry, I will never spam you!)
